Vehicle Description The Porsche 356 was a turning point for the sports car.
Impressed by the lightweight, small-displacement Volkswagens of the era, Ferry Porsche set out to improve on the concept and build what he referred to as a modern sports car.
The result was an aerodynamic, featherweight coupe with increased power over the economical VWs.
With all-aluminum bodies and spartan interiors, the cars were an instant hit with European race car drivers.
As production increased, these aluminum prototype cars were redesigned for street use.
Aluminum was replaced with steel bodywork, constructed by famed coachbuilder Karosseriewerk Reutter, and engine displacement further increased.
Still, the fundamental concept and overall design remained identical.
This 1958 Porsche 356A 1600 Coupe has been treated to a three-year, ground up restoration.
It is a matching-numbers example, and sports 115 horsepower thanks to a set of Zenith carburetors.
Additionally, there are several optional GT Carrera features including a roll bar, seats, doors with leather window straps, gas cap, rearview mirror housing, aluminum deck lid with correct louvers, bumper stripes, leather hood straps, and exhaust system.
Other features include the sunroof, Bosch fog lights, correct Hand Hard rally chronographs, Dynamat floor insulation, an electric shut-off on the hood, rally headlight covers, and custom badges.
This 356 example is sure to set you apart from the crowds at any vintage rally, car show, or cars and coffee.
