For Sale: 1979 MG MGB in Stratford, Connecticut for sale in Stratford, CT

1 of 25
Vehicle Description A well kept example, 46,000 original miles, excellent body with good older BRG paint, excellent floor/sills/jacking points, has just completed a comprehensive chrome bumper conversion, new bumpers, new Mk I grille, eliminated side lights, filled with welded in metal and paint blending on all four corners, lowered to pre 1975 ride height, rebuilt front end, new springs and bushings, new radiator, new alternator, brakes checked.
Runs 65 psi oil pressure when warm, no smoke, fitted with a 32/36 DGV Weber carb and tubular racing headers.
BEST OF ALL, proper working overdrive on 3rd and 4th gears offering six different ratios (only around 15% of Bs had overdrive and, now, after fifty year, many are no longer working.
) We chose to leave the original Rostyle wheels on but we can convert this to eight spoke Minilite alloy wheels or fit a set of center lock wire wheels (chrome or painted).
A buyer's choice.
Top is in good condition as is the boot cover, has excellent wiring and everything works, very good tan interior, wood steering wheel and dashboard, and a modern digital stereo with bluetooth and USB input.
No rust in the trunk, has a spare wheel/tire and new jack and lug wrench.
And as a late model MGB has servo assist disc brakes, electronic ignition, more reliable gauges, stronger gearbox and back axle, front and rear sway bars, the result is the best MGB never sold in the USA.
Combining early aesthetics with late model reliability.
Options? A powerful auxiliary heater, a/c, choice of wheels, different color top, luggage rack, one can adapt this cr for most any use or climate.
When these were new, in 1979, there weren't many small sports cars left for sale in the USA.
And this car, in original form, with a single Stromberg carb, 62.
5hp, ugly (and heavy) rubber bumpers, raised up on the ride height.
not a particularly appetizing car.
YET sales were going upprobably due to less competition (Triumphs ended in 1976, Healeys in 1967, and Jaguars morphed into sedans).
and the 'new' primary market was probably for older drivers and occasional use.
While their grand kids were off to college in hot German or Japanese hatchbacks.
And the result now in 2022? Low mileage cars, properly serviced and updated, and FAR better than when new.
And in a 55-65 mph society, fun sports car driving with less worry of getting a speeding ticket!.
